The first One-day International of the five-match series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is being played at Dhaka on Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2009). Bangladesh is wary of a resurgent Zimbabwe in the series despite dominating their African rivals over the last three years.


Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, standing in for the injured Mashrafe Mortaza, said his team "cannot afford to make mistakes" if they are to repeat their 4-1 win over Prosper Utseya's men in Zimbabwe in August.

"We know they have been playing some good cricket lately," Shakib, 22, the world's top-rated one-day allrounder, told reporters on Monday. "Our strengths are almost equal. A mistake could prove very costly. If we make a mistake, they will grab the chance. "Still we believe we are bit ahead of them as we have more match winners and we are playing in our home conditions."

The series gets underway at Dhaka's Mirpur stadium, which will also host matches on October 29 and 31, before the final two games are played in Chittagong on November 3 and 5.


Bangladesh has not lost a bilateral one-day series against Zimbabwe in the last three years and has won 15 of their last 19 matches against all comers. The hosts will miss their regular captain Mortaza, who has been ruled out until mid-November after undergoing surgery on both knees in Australia in August.


Shakib has filled the void admirably and was recently named the international player of the year by the well respected Wisden magazine. Zimbabwe captain Utseya acknowledged that his team would start out as the "underdogs" but said he was still hopeful of a good performance.
"We did pretty well against Kenya at home before coming here," he said. "We beat them 4-1 and hope to carry the momentum into the matches against Bangladesh.

"Playing any home team is tough and we will probably start as the underdogs. But there are a few new faces and some of the players have shown good form recently," Utseya said.

Australia survived a massive scare from India's tail-enders to snatch a thrilling four-run victory in the first match of their one-day international series. The world champions posted a daunting 292-8 and had the hosts reeling at 201-7 before Harbhajan Singh (49) and Praveen Kumar (40 not out) launched a stunning counter-attack to take the match down to the wire.

Harbhajan slammed three sixes in his 31-ball whirlwind and shared 84 runs off 57 balls with Kumar for the eighth wicket but his dismissal in the penultimate over turned the match in Australia's favour.

Needing nine runs for a win in the final over, the Indians could manage just four to finish on 288-8 and hand the visitors a 1-0 lead in the seven-match series.


Left-handed opener Gautam Gambhir top-scored with a fighting 68 but India's chances were severely affected by the early dismissals of Virender Sehwag (13) and Sachin Tendulkar (14).

Australia, ranked number one in the one-day charts, were indebted to captain Ricky Ponting (74) and Michael Hussey (73), who ensured a stiff target for India through their aggressive batting. India's chase began on a shaky note as they lost explosive opener Sehwag in the fifth over, caught behind by Tim Paine off paceman Brett Lee (1-28).

Tendulkar, set to complete 20 years in international cricket next month, lost his wicket in tame fashion, holing out to Ponting after facing 39 balls and hitting just two fours.

Ponting hit eight fours and two sixes in his 85-ball knock and put on 97 runs with Paine (50) after electing to bat on a placid wicket. Hussey, named man of the match, built on the platform laid by the duo to slam eight fours and a huge six in a late assault that also saw Cameron White chip in with 51. The Australians did well to regroup after the early dismissal of Shane Watson (5), who hit back-to-back centuries in the Champions Trophy semi-final and final.

Umpire Amish Saheba took on the on-field umpire's role after England's Mark Benson fell ill on the eve of the match. Saheba had earlier been named as the third umpire.

Ponting, who became only the second Australian after Steve Waugh to feature in 50 one-day internationals against India, looked in prime form as he anchored the innings with young Paine. He raced to his 71st half-century with a boundary before being trapped leg-before by Ravindra Jadeja, the left-arm spinner picking his first wicket in one-day internationals.

The second match of the series will be played in Nagpur on Wednesday (Oct. 28, 2009).

This was Australia's first tour of India in ten years, six months after the dispute with Kerry Packer's World Series had been settled. India seal six Test match series by 2-0. India won Kanpur Test by 153-runs (India 271 and 311; Australia 304 and 125). History was made on September 22 at the Chepauk Stadium when only the second Test in history was tied. It was a thrilling climax. Other two Test played at Bombay (Australia 207/3d; India 107/3) and Delhi end with draw (Australia 345 and 216/2; India 517/5d). Excellent bowling from Craig McDermott and Bruce Reid consigned India to ten and eight wicket defeats at Brisbane (India 239 and 156; Australia 340 and 58/0) and Melbourne (India 263 and 213; Australia 349 and 128/2), but come Sydney and a 19-year-old dazzled in a draw (Australia 313 and 173/8; India 483). Sachin Tendulkar, on a slow track, hit what many regard as his best Test innings, a brilliant 148. The fourth Test at Adelaide was a tight contest, but Australia came back from a poor first-innings to make 451 and won by 83 runs (Australia 145 and 451; India 225 and 333). Australia's attempt to record a first Test success in India since 1969-70 were dashed as India won the one-off at Delhi by seven wickets (Australia 182 and 234; India 361 and 58/3). A four Test match series have drawn. First Test at Brisban intrupted by rain, Indian captain Sourav Ganguly hits a century (Australia 323 and 284/3d; India 409 and 73/2). In the second Test Australia were looking ominous at 400 for 5 but Kumble's five got them to 556 and Indian inning one time India lose five wicket under 100 runs before Dravid's heroics toppled the hosts. His 233 and Laxman's 148 took India to 523 and Ajit Agarkar's 6 for 41 shot Australia out for 196, setting India 230 to win. True to form, Australia fought hard but Dravid's unbeaten 72 sealed a fantastic win by 4 wickets (Australia 556 and 196; India 523 and 233/6). Australia bounce back Boxing Day Test and level the series by 1-1. Sehwag thrilled with a first-day 195. Ponting's second consecutive double-century powered Australia to 558 and an eventual nine-wickets win (India 366 and 286; Australia 558 and 97/1). Australia won the first Test at Bangalore by 217 (Australia 474 and 228; India 246 and 239). Michael Clarke's 151 and Gilchrist's murderous 104, while Harbhajan excelled with 11 wickets in the match. Australia will tour India for Seven match ODI Series in the late of October 2009. They will play their first match of ODI series on 25th of October 2009 in Vadodara Out of Seven matches six of the one day internationals will be day/night encounters between these two teams.
While there will be a two-day gap between most of the fixtures, there will be just a day's rest between the 3rd and 4th ODIs, to be played in New Delhi and Mohali respectively. Mumbai will host the last ODI between India and Australia on November 11th 2009.

Mumbai: BCCI has finalised the venues for the seven-match ODI series between India and Australia which is scheduled to start from October 25.
Guwahati, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mohali and Nagpur are the selected cities for the seven ODI matches.
